With many years of experience in various managerial and leadership roles, Carl-Mikael Andersson was looking for a programme that would broaden his knowledge of management. He chose FEI’s Top-up degree in International Business Management. The programme enables students to build on a higher vocational education qualification (YH) or previous university studies and obtain a bachelor’s degree. Carl-Mikael’s goal is for the programme to lead to a deeper understanding of issues related to leadership and to support him in his managerial role.

The quality of the programme has exceeded my expectations. Above all, I’m impressed by the lecturers, who are of a very high calibre and have extensive experience within their areas of expertise, enabling them to understand and explain how the knowledge can be applied in practice. I want to continue developing my skills and feel more confident in taking on more complex issues in my work, says Carl-Mikael Andersson, Section Manager at DEKRA Industrial.

FEI is the only education provider in Sweden offering Top-up degrees in collaboration with Coventry University in the United Kingdom. Top-up degrees are programmes designed for those with a higher vocational education qualification or two years of university studies who wish to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Studies take place on-site in Stockholm or online over one or two years, depending on the chosen pace.

At first, continuing his studies was not an obvious choice for Carl-Mikael Andersson. He felt uncertain about combining studies with his role as Section Manager at DEKRA Industrial in Malmö, where he is responsible for a team of around twenty people. Support from his employer was therefore crucial in his decision. He chose a Top-up degree in International Business Management at FEI in collaboration with Coventry University due to the flexible study format, which allows him to study alongside his work.

The study format suits me very well. FEIFLEX allows me to participate in lessons live online, and also to revisit them afterwards in the evenings and at weekends. I’m driven by personal development and am very grateful that my employer sees the potential in me and in the knowledge I can contribute through the programme.

Students on the Top-up degree in International Business Management gain broader expertise through various business courses with a focus on management. Carl-Mikael feels that the programme provides students with important methods and tools that many managers and leaders would greatly benefit from.

The different modules make the programme highly engaging. It is important for a manager to have broad knowledge, as you work with people who have different personalities, backgrounds and professional skills. You therefore need to be able to adapt in order to help the group function well and perform at its best. For me, staying up to date in my managerial role is essential.

FEI’s unique academic collaboration means that students who complete a Top-up degree receive a bachelor’s degree from Coventry University, one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom with extensive experience in international partnerships. Coventry University has a steadily increasing global presence, with over 50,000 students currently enrolled in its programmes worldwide, and collaborates with more than 70 partner institutions in over 40 countries. Carl-Mikael sees the international aspect of the programme as a major advantage.

Those working in companies with foreign partners and teams truly get the opportunity to take their knowledge to the next level. I would highly recommend this Top-up degree to anyone in a management position or who aspires to such roles in the future, says Carl-Mikael Andersson.

The BSc (Hons) International Business Management (Top-up) leads to a Bachelor of Science awarded by Coventry University and is recognised as equivalent to a Swedish bachelor’s degree by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). The programme is taught in English and broadens your business administration knowledge with a focus on management. You strengthen your CV, gain managerial-level insights, and develop new skills beneficial for future leadership roles.
